Well after the initial gold ruch for g+ invites, the buzz seems to die down.
Why g+ might not sustain?
1) One of the coolest features of g+ was group chat and now with FB aping that with the help of Skype , g+ loses a crucial brownie point.
2) FB already has a user base of over 750 million users, creating such a huge base for g+ is difficult and takes time. In the meantime, if FB incorporates the coolest features in g+, then shifting to g+ would not be worth the effort.
3) Another cool feature in g+ are the circles. But creating circles manually is time consuming. Also, friendships and communities are not discrete but have a gradation. For example, my sister might belong to my family circle. Since she went to the same school as I did, she would also belong to my school friend's circle and would also belong to a sub-circle of school friends who I am particularly close to. Would'nt adding the same person to different groups be a lot of unnecessary hard work? Instead of having circles, if we could create a hierarchy of overlapping circles, that might solve this problem.
These are some of the things that google needs to look into for g+ to grow as big as Facebook.

my dear rumi boudi i agree with you . but don't you think people need a change ? Facebook has become old and people have gotten more or less bored going to the same site daily . and users will join up soon as they want to experience something new and different. plus the introduction of the circles in G+ will just attract attention of the users as it will be a whole new experience for them and as well as eye catching....
It is the underlying principle that matters. Personally, if FB incorporates group video chat and becomes equal to G+, i would still prefer G+. What worries me about FB is the attitude of the company. They don't think twice before selling out your information to the highest bidder. One might say that even Google does it. May be, but i haven't seen myself logged in through Gmail to any random site i visit.
As far as hierarchical circles go, i completely agree with you. It would surely be cool to have. But yes, Circles give you much more control over what you share and with whom than FB has ever allowed!
One thing to realize here is that the current version of G+ is only a field trial. There is much more to come. :)
Also note that fb does not support group video chat, its just 1:1 and why would it have to be fb to do 1:1 video chat :P
@Tushnik: If people are bored with FB, there is no guarantee that they would not be bored with g+ soon ....plus if you have a lot of friends in FB, then would'nt u prefer to post a message on FB?
@Adarsh: So its more about the brand name and trust you are talking about...but gmail too has very personalized ads :)
@skareagle: I am not anti-g+....I was just evaluating the present version :D
@terminator: fb does not have 1:1 chat, but it is collaborating with skype (https://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=10150223135777131) and skypehas group video chat, which might as well be integrated into fb in future. Ya people do not use FB for 1:1 video chat but group video chat or hangout is a cool feature in g+, and the 1:1 video chat in Fb might be a first step in that direction
Let the titans fight to give the users the best service. In a way, G+ ended the monopoly of FB (given that FB is one of the best around) , the new feature of video chat in FB is also a result of that. As you said adding circles inside circles should be the way to go. Hopefully from now on FB will re evaluate their privacy policies to retain their user base.
@Sushmita: I completely agree with you :)
rumi you may be correct.. but the most important advantage that g+ has is that, it already has all people from fb and also more than that as g+ is just made as an addon of google.. so who ever is having gmail account they are infact directly related to g+.. and g+ is not asking you to wait till your friends accepts your request.. so you will have all friends directly with out waiting for request.... n you should also remember that though orkut was most popular in the begining fb captured the market.. so people just need change not because they need all good features.. they want change for they want to change..once they knew something, they want to experiment something else...for example if you love some music how many years can you listen it.. you try other music... if the music is copied it is said as copied from, but we always like originality.
